Week 30

I landed a job. Finally, I can rest a bit easier at night. It's another retail job, but hey, who needs that journalism degree, right? It's with Old Navy, and I'm still not certain whether it's full or part-time just yet, but I know the pay is considerably lower than my previous Hob Lob gig. So, I'm definitely going to have to get a second job to cover bills, rent, and student loan debt—I won't be able to handle that all and start paying Ruth back, too. :/ Hob Lob, WHY YOU NO TRANSFER? Grrrrr.

But wait, as I was writing this post (I began writing it Thursday night), I received a call about

a possible copy desk/proofreader position with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Yay. Of course I'll apply! My interview for that was earlier today at 3 p.m. I'd say the entire interview went over incredibly well. I even got to sit in for what's titled a budget meeting. That was fun. I felt like I handled the copy editing test well, but we'll see how I get graded this weekend. The lovely lady who interviewed me (and even gave me an entire tour of their newsroom) said that she'd call me back by Tuesday to know if the job is mine or not. I really hope I get this one. I want so flipping badly to finally get my foot in that journalistic door. I deserve this. I've worked so hard my entire life. I want it.

I also had an exceptionally wonderful time Tuesday evening during Sarah's birthday get-together at Casa Mexicana. Fajita nachos (of course), margaritas, and great friends...what more could a girl ask for (besides having a vagina)? I had a blast meeting lots of new people from my Little Rock group that I hadn't met yet either. They were all loads of fun. :D Let's see... Ruth, Phillip, Wendell, Sarah H., Judd, Reda, Laney, Tom, Lynne, Frank, Laken, Sarah N., Ryan, Chris, Samantha, Jeff, Sam, and Tracy (yeah, I don't have ANY friends at all, Rick...) ...but to all of those I mentioned—thank you for making me feel human. <3

I think Ruth wants to do at least one more trip out to the lake before the summer is over. I'm definitely for that. Color fades super fast on my skin, and I'd like to get as much as I can before I go full pale again by the end of September. :P I just wish my new bikini would hurry up and get here. Stupid international shipping!

So, here's this two week's physical progression stats...

On Target...Or Not EOTWP

Week 29

Wow. Facial changes really are becoming apparent now. I love it. And I love being and feeling ecstatic about my overall health and physical attributes now. Also, I gave myself a good eyebrow plucking the other day. Go me. <3

So, I had a job interview this past Tuesday with Target. Yes yes, retail. Ugh. But I was intrigued by their store presentation position opening up. I applied for that. And the next day, I was called in that afternoon to interview for said position. And well...I declined. Primarily because I'd have to change my entire lifestyle around to fit that position's hours and time schedule, and I just can't do that - not in Little Rock...not in anywhere. I would have been working only 20 hours per week at a pay rate of $10.15 an hour. My hours during the day would have been 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. No thanks. That alone would have ripped my sleeping patterns and schedule to shreds, and I'm already having a difficult enough time as it is getting sleep at appropriate hours. Ugh.

But! I'll be getting a call from Old Navy (more retail, I know) tomorrow to set up an in-store interview. This is actually for a full-time, daily position, but I have no idea what their pay rate is going to be. And if that doesn't work out for me? I have an interview with Premier Staffing on Tuesday afternoon to help me find something in my desired field. Maybe things are finally starting to change. Who knows? I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Friday night was totally fun. Ruth had her white coat ceremony for UAMS's College of Pharmacy. My roomie's gonna be a pharmacist, you guys! I'm definitely excited for her. And the ceremony was really nice as well. Ruth looked super professional in her white coat. I'm super proud of her, for sure. I'm positive her grandparents who came to the ceremony, too, were more than proud and excited for her. They're super sweet people!

Afterwards, we set course for La Hacienda Mexican restaurant (so good!), where we watched Ruth's grandfather completely destroy and devour a bowl of salsa and cheese dip. Seriously, it's the best I've ever had. Nowhere else comes close. As always, the food was incredible. After we bid her grandparents adieu, we ventured over to Cajun's Wharf where a UAMS gathering of students, alumni, and friends was taking place. Oh my goodness, there were so many people. I love that kind of atmosphere, but it was super crowded up on the balcony deck overlooking the Arkansas River, and inside it was crazy loud from the local band doing their thing. Definitely a fun night, but after a tasty Play-dee-do from Cajun's, a headache was beginning to form. Ruth and I both couldn't finish our drinks. :P

As for Saturday, I was surprised when my friend Dexter appeared out of the blue, sitting at my dining room table. This was after I hurried my arse along doing my makeup as quick as possible so that Ruth and I could go clothes shopping - at least, that's what I was informed was happening. LIES. SO MANY LIES. LOLs. It was so great to see Dex in Little Rock! :D And Wendell even came over, too! I knew those two were going to connect right away, as they're both such incredibly talented artists. And they did. :) All smiles here.

And I worry about my kitty now, too. I realize he's an older cat and I've always taken super good care of him, but lately (especially this past week) he's been very sluggish. He's not been as mobile, venturing around and about in the apartment as he always has in the past. It just worries me, that's all. I loves him way too much.

Rejected and Denied EOTWP

Week 27

I was denied the proofreader position for PatientPoint. Ouch. I cried the majority of the day on Monday and once again during the night as I fell asleep. It hurts. But I picked myself up and immediately started turning in more applications and CVs. I need a job - badly. And while I appreciate close friends stepping up to help me through this, financially, I don't want it to come to that point. So, I'm trying harder; pushing harder to succeed. I have a phone interview tomorrow for an assistant manager position for Claire's. Ugh, retail. It's below my Hob Lob pay scale, but it's something. And I definitely need something, at least. I've applied for another proofreader position with Dillard's corporate, but I've heard terrible things about that specific department. We'll see.

But last night was wonderful. Ruth, Phillip, and I gathered with two friends of ours for Mexican food and margaritas. Seriously, guys, watermelon margaritas are incredible. So tasty. I also love Señor Tequila's fajita nachos. They're the best I've had in this area...and quite comparable to Mi Pueblo's in Osceola. If it were up to me, every Mexican restaurant would have this on their menu. :P I also got a great compliment on my voice. I've worked vigorously to obtain and ascertain the pitch and inflection I've developed. It's amazing how much differently I sound compared to early October last year before I started voice therapy.

GOP debate, despite me being drunk last night and somehow remembering a good portion of it, was quite hysterical and frustrating all at the same time. Huckabee showed his true colors as a fundamentalist Christian wacko - while increasing my distaste for him as a previous Arkansas governor, Walker and his goofy ire toward the female body (as was commonplace amongst all GOP candidates last night) was wholeheartedly disgusting, Kasich, the misogynist and transphobe that he is, showed moderate views toward marriage equality, and the ultimate clown of them all, Trump, actually uttered the words single-payer healthcare out of his mouth as a good thing (which it is.) Wow.

But none of these buffoons matter. Bernie Sanders for President, please. #FeelTheBern, all day long. If he had Elizabeth Warren as his running mate...oh mah gah. That premise would do incredible things for us as a nation. I can only hope. All of these forward-thinking, progressive Millennials have made social media the giant that it is in this world. And they have the ability to change and reshape things for the better. Let's make it happen!

Oh! My dear friend, Leah, visited me this past Sunday, too. She came over during the late morning hours, introduced her to Ruth and Phillip (fun conversation about porn and 80s music...haha), the two of us had lunch at a local sandwich shop, and came back to play some Smash Bros. online. I think we truly crushed the skulls of those 8-year-old kids in several rounds of play. It was a fun time! I was happy she was able to visit.
